A report on a mis-selling scandal that left thousands of Isle of Man customers out of pocket is still pending, according to Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan.
Energy company Scottish Power offered cash-back incentives for customers who took out extended warranties on electrical goods from 1997, but more than 600,000 of them, including some in the Isle of Man, are still waiting to receive their money.
Mr Cannan was responding to a question from Onchan MHK Rob Callister, who wanted to know what action had been taken on the issue since June last year.
’Can he assure me the 644,000 customers will have answers and possibly ways of getting their refunds back?’ he asked.
Mr Cannan said an independent QC was undertaking a review using a 10,000 page report from the Financial Services Authority. He said a first draft of the review had been received by the FSA for fact checking.
’I can confirm we will have a report detailing lessons learned by June 30, 2017,’ he said.
’The best thing to do at present is wait for the report then we can assess what action is necessary.’
