A second candidate has come forward for the vacancy in the Legislative Council.

Advocate and human rights specialist Paul Beckett has been nominated by Liberal Vannin leader Kate Beecroft, Health Minister and MHK for Douglas South.

Mr Beckett previously stood as a candidate for LegCo in 2015.

Qualifying as an English solicitor in 1981 and as an Isle of Man advocate in 1990, he has more than 35 years’ experience as a lawyer within the international private banking and fiduciary services industries and in private practice.

He is an experienced diplomat, having been on the staff of the European Patent Office in Munich and was the honorary representative of the Manx Government in Switzerland during his time as a senior vice president of Deutsche Bank in Geneva.

Mr Beckett has been seconded by fellow LibVan member Lawrie Hooper (Ramsey) and is supported by Julie Edge (Onchan) and Jason Moorhouse (Arbory, Castletown and Malew).

Lawyer Jane Poole-Wilson was the first candidate to have her name put forward to fill the LegCo vacancy created by the retirement of Tony Wild.

Closing date for nomination is May 5 and the election will take place on May 18.
