Unemployment rose slightly last month - but remains at a near-13 year low.

The number of people registered as unemployed rose by 13 last month to 420.

But that’s still 200 fewer than the same month last year. And the last time unemployment was lower than that was in September 2004.

The rate of unemployment remained at 1%, the same as in June.

During July 853 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre. At the end of the month 552 remained. Three quarters were full-time positions and the rest part-time.

Of those registered unemployed, 64% (268) are men and 36% (152) are women.

Using International Labour Organisation estimates, 865 people were out of a job and looking for work, but not necessarily registered unemployed. This compared with a total of 852 the previous month and work out at unemployment rate of 2%.
