There are no plans to wind down the Legal Costs Reserve Fund, Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan has confirmed.
The fund was set up in 2005 after a number of large and complex legal cases.
It pays for any unexpected bills.
Responding to a House of Keys question from David Ashford (Douglas North), the minister said: ’There is no long-term plan to wind down the Legal Costs Reserve.
’There has been a move to reduce the reliance to meet the cost of expenditure items which are ongoing revenue costs and these are reflected in the revenue budgets.’
He said £1 million has been added to the reserve for 2017-18 and the level would be reviewed annually to ensure it can meet the ’contingencies that it was designed for’.
