A 70s onwards-themed disco is set to woo revellers over the festive period when Peggy’s Bar opens next month.

The bar, which will operate for six weeks in the run up to Christmas, will be in the basement area of the Chesterhouse Hotel in Douglas, which is currently undergoing a makeover.

The venture represents a collaboration between Douglas events agency Peggy and Lewis and the Sleepwell Hotel Group and aims to provide islanders with a ’fun and alternative nightlife experience’.

Jamie Lewis, director at Peggy and Lewis, said: ’It’s great to be working with Mark [Wilson] and the Sleepwell Hotel team. What started as a conversation over the bar during the madness of TT, has very quickly evolved into a fully fledged operation.’

Mark Wilson, managing director of Sleepwell Hotels, said: ’We were impressed by the "Big Top" concept Jamie and the team created in Bushy’s TT village during the TT period.

’We were keen to work with Peggy and Lewis on a collaborative project and felt that the space beneath the Chesterhouse Hotel would be ideal, as it needed a new lease of life.

’The night time economy is incredibly important for the Isle of Man and we’re thrilled to add Peggy’s unique nightlife concept to our diverse lineup of restaurants and hotels.’

Douglas’s new cocktail bar, which is being referred to as an ’extra fancy discotheque’, aims not to be taken too seriously.

Mr Lewis added: ’We do pride ourselves on service and customer experience and are keen to advocate an accessible vibe. We’re open to absolutely anyone who enjoys a good time and the company of other like-minded people. Who said disco was dead?’

The space is currently undergoing a refurbishment.

As well as its cocktail men, the bar will offer wines, beers and spirits, plus a wide variety of non-alcoholic options.

Mr Lewis added: ’It’s been a dream of mine to open my own bar and this collaborative pop-up is a huge first step towards achieving that; making my own ideas a reality. ’Attitudes towards drinking are changing, and we acknowledge that not everyone wants the same thing any more.

’We’ve transformed the venue into a special and social space, something I believe there is a huge gap in the market for.

’We’re channelling Studio 54 vibes, so expect a uniquely bonkers mashup of everything from 1970 onwards.’

Peggy’s offers bookable tables, a private party room and what they call a ’Baby Bar’ for smaller functions.

Peggy’s bar, on Loch Promenade, will open on Thursday, November 22, and runs through to December 26.
