The contribution made by Port St Mary residents during the First World War is showcased in an exhibition in the port’s town hall.

The display includes swords, shell casings, photographs, clothing, art that was created in the trenches and maps of where servicemen lived in the village and showing where some are buried in France.

In total, 145 Port St Mary residents served in the First World War.

Of them, 114 survived the war and 31 did not.

The town hall and garden of remembrance, overlooking the harbour in Bay View Road, are lit up in red and a large poppy is on display at Happy Valley.
