An auction of vintage Isle of Man post boxes has been hailed a ’tremendous success’.
A total of 42 lots went under the hammer at Chrystals auction house last Saturday.
They included decommissioned pillar boxes, and pole and wall-mounted boxes in varying degrees of condition, dating back to the Victorian era, Edward VII, George V and VI through to Queen Elizabeth II.
The estimated catalogue prices ranged from a minimum of £60 up to £3,000.
All of the lots were sold - and all fetched over their estimated prices.
The top price was paid for lot 11, a George V oval cast iron pillar box with stamp dispenser to one side. This went for £8,000 (including VAT and costs) - well over its estimate of £3,000.
