The reader who sent it in said: ’It’s astonishing that a road so close to the beating heart of Manx capitalism on Athol Street can be in such a bad condition.

’Imagine trying to persuade a company to set up in the Isle of Man and taking the prospective business people past that.

’OK, the streets of Douglas aren’t paved with gold. In fact, they aren’t paved with anything.’
