An organisation that helps people with addiction problems has launched two new projects.
Motiv8’s recovery hub sees people at various stages of recovery from addictive behaviours coming together, supporting each other and using Motiv8’s new five-point group work recovery programme.
It has a range of group activities which focus on physical and mental well-being; rehabilitation; family and parenting; building recovery networks; and improving life opportunities.
The group projects are funded y by the Manx Lottery Trust part of the Big Lottery Fund and are open to anyone who wants help with addictive behaviours,
YP@MOTIV8 - is an new service which has been created to support young people (under 18) who are affected by their own or someone else’s drugs, gambling or gaming use.
The service provides youth focused support and information.
A gambling and gaming education project for young people is also being introduced to publicise and promote safety online and responsible use.
This project is joint funded by the Manx Lottery Trust and Motiv8’s problem gambling fund, with donations from the island’s gambling and gaming industry.
Thea Ozenturk, the chief executive officer of Motiv8, said: ’Not many charities in this field get to celebrate 40 years of operation and it is perhaps our constant evolving to meet needs in the local community that has helped us stay relevant, current and helped us survive.
’Attempting recovery from addictive behaviours can be an isolating experience. With the creation of the "recovery hub", our separate group room facility, we now have four groups a week where people can come together and support each other.
’This is in addition to our one-to-one counselling and support service.
’The creation of YP@Motiv8, a service to support under 18s impacted by drugs, gambling and gaming has come about due to increased concerns about these issues.
’While young people are drinking less alcohol, other potentially damaging behaviours have emerged as causes of concern. These new projects are not funded by government and we are grateful to the Lottery Trust and to the companies from the island’s gambling and gaming industry who have made donations.’
A launch event is being held in Douglas today (Tuesday) for professionals in the health, education and social care sectors.
