Protestors against Manx Gas’ charges demonstrated outside the company’s offices yesterday (Monday).

Members of the public held signs on the South Quay, Douglas, asking passersby to ’honk’ their horns in support and make their opinions about the banded standing charges ’known’.

The group believe that Manx Gas has ’unfair’ charges as ’customers are paying more for gas than what they actually use’. The lowest charge for the service begins at 16p with the highest being at £2.13 per day.

Barry Murphy, organiser of the protest, has campaigned to get the system banned since it was first introduced in January 2016.

The campaigner has demanded that the service should be more ’clear and transparent’, as many of its customers do not understand how the banded standing charges work.

Yesterday’s gathering marks the last of five ’Winter of Discontent’ protests this year, but participants have said that they will continue in 2018.
