About 40 to 50 protesters braved the weather at the weekend to demonstrate against the proposal to raise the height of the Laxey seawall.

The protest was organised by harbourside resident Dalia Everden.

Julie Pinson, who is a commissioner for Garff but as a seafront business owner can only speak in a personal capacity, said she thought most people agreed some type of sea defence was needed but favoured trialling beach management first.

’We would like to try moving the rocks and pebbles at the harbour end first, which act as steps, feeding waves up and over the wall.

’Many people seem to feel beach management and rebuilding the wall as it is but with a lip on the seaward side could be sufficient,’ she said.
