Accommodation providers have come under fire for refusing refunds to disappointed TT fans.

This year’s TT had been one of the big name victims of the coronavirus crisis.

But race fans who had been looking forward to seeing the TT action have been left hundreds of pounds or more out of pocket where they had paid a non-refundable deposit to book accommodation at a reduced rate.

One woman from New Zealand had been looking forward to coming to this year’s TT as part of a ’trip of a lifetime’ and then made the ’hard call’ to cancel the whole six-week holiday.

She posted on Facebook: ’We paid in full back in August £1,175 for three nights’ accommodation.

’I understand everyone has business to run and staff to think about but to get a letter saying they are standing by their no refund policy makes me a little frustrated. There was no offer of any sort to rebook.’

Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly said: ’Our accommodation businesses are reaching crisis point, particularly around the issue of visitor deposits. We understand that many simply do not have the ability to refund deposits, even if they wished to do so.’
