Bunscoill Rhumsaa pupils were presented with a certificate and shield for raising the most donations out of all island schools towards the annual Poppy Appeal.
Members of the Royal British Legion attended the school to present the new shield to the junior school students for raising about £600 and handed a certificate to infant school students for raising more than £200.
Bunscoill Rhumsaa is the first to have its named engraved on the shield, as it raised the highest amount out of other island schools for the Poppy Appeal last year.
William Hankin, of the RBL Ramsey branch, said: ’Once again the staff and pupils of the Bunscoill Rhumsaa have shown their continued fantastic support of the Royal British Legion and the annual Poppy Appeal.
’I believe it is important that the children are recognised for the support that they give to the Royal British Legion.’
Presenting the accolades to students and teachers was Ray Fergus, who is the Isle of Man county chairman of the RBL.
The poppy appeal is held every autumn in the Isle of Man, UK and the Republic of Ireland with volunteers collecting donations through a range of fundraising activities.
The donations go towards helping serving and ex-servicemen and women as well as their dependants.
Bunscoill Rhumsaa raised the money through special Royal British Legion packs containing wristbands and bendy rulers to sell. They also held bake sales.
The island’s branch will present its shield annually to the school that raises the most donations towards the initiative.
