The traditional Ramsey bike show returns to the town on Bank Holiday Monday.

The event made a return to the summer calendar last year after a few years’ absence and this year will feature not just the bike display but also an autojumble.

The venue is once again the forecourt of the Surestrike bowling alley, where the collection of display bikes will be positioned.

Organiser Steve Parker said the event began some years ago and was, latterly, run by the Triumph Owners’ Club.

Relaunched in its new location last year, the show attracted at least 60 entries for the bike show and more are anticipated this year.

’It ran for a few years in the Market Square then moved to the park and last year was the first revamped event,’ he said.

’The new venue works well because there is a cafe there and toilets. It looks a bit like the ACE cafe in London when all the bikes are assembled there.

’This year we decided to add an autojumble so people can bring items like bits of bikes down to sell.’

An added attraction last year was a sand racing event on the beach but unfortunately unfavourable tide times mean this cannot happen this year. However, there will also be a display of photographs set up inside the bowling alley cafe.

The Sure telephone company is providing sponsorship and support also comes from Paul Dedman Motorcycles, which is funding the trophies.

Prizes will be given for the best bike in the show, the best classic machine and the best ’altered’ bike. Controversially, the accolade of best bike went to a scooter last year.

’We are expecting more entries in the show this year because a lot of people who turned up last time said they wished they had entered their bikes in the display,’ said Mr Parker, who revealed entries were still coming in for the show.

’I think people are still waiting to see what the weather forecast is,’ he added.

This year there is a fee of £5 (per entrant, rather than per exhibit) to put a bike in the show and all proceeds will go to the Joey Dunlop Foundation charity, which provides holiday accommodation to disabled visitors to the island.

Spectators can enter the show free of charge.

Anyone who wants more information or to enter a bike in the display can contact Mr Parker on 811550 during the day or 815946 in the evening.
