After a lapse of 25 years, Ramsey Carnival is being revived and is to take place on Saturday, July 22.
The man behind the idea of bringing back the carnival is commissioner Albert Oldham, who is one of a committee of six people driving it forward.
He said: ’It is planned that the procession will start from the Swimming Pool in Old River Road and wend its way to Mooragh Park where there will be attractions for all ages. We have been looking for sponsors and are very hopeful that someone will sponsor the whole event.
’Everyone I have spoken to has been positive about it. For my own part, I will do whatever it takes to get the carnival up and running again.’
It is hoped that as many as 20 floats will take part in the parade. Entry forms for the float and fancy dress classes will be available at the town hall in the next few weeks. A Facebook page will also be launched shortly.
The carnival will come hot on the heels of Ramsey National Week (July 1 to 9), with Ramsey Rocks on Friday, July 7 and the Rotary Funday in Mooragh Park on Sunday, July 9. There are also rumours of a Battle of the (Brass) Bands on Saturday, July 8.
