Known as SLARS (Shannon-launch and recovery system), the vehicle allows the lifeboat to be deployed and removed from the water far quicker than the conventional use of a the slipway.
Ramsey’s new Shannon lifeboat, the Ann & James Ritchie 2, is expected to be delivered in early spring, with an official naming ceremony set to take place in the summer.
The boat will be operational after this ceremony, with the local crew already scheduled to travel to Poole in Dorset to begin their training.
It will replace the town’s Mersey-class Ruby Clery.
State of the art Shannon-class lifeboats are larger, faster and more manoeuvrable than their Mersey-class predecessors - being powered by water jet engines rather than propellers.
