Inflation rose last month.
Figures released this morning from the government show that the cost of living, measured by the consumer prices index, jumped 2.6% over the last 12 months in June.
May’s figure was 2.2%.
The government says that the rise has been caused by the increase in the price of crude oil, which has had an effect on heating oil and petrol prices.
The category ’oils and other fuels’ is up 18.6% since June 2017.
The cost of rent has also gone up by 6.3%.
The good news is that fruit is 10.3% cheaper, milk products are down 6.6% and tea is down 8.2%.
The figures say that sea travel has got 5.7% more expensive, while air travel is 0.6% cheaper.
There are some apparent anomalies in the statistics, which are produced by the economic affairs division of the government.
For example, while women’s outerwear has risen by 4.5%, children’s has got 4.5% cheaper. Men’s is up 2%.
