A space for reflection and remembrance has been created in St John’s to mark the centenary of the armistice that brought World War I to a close.

An area on the edge of the village’s old ’pin pound’ - opposite St John’s church and home of a war memorial commemorating those from the parish of German who gave their lives in two world wars - has been regenerated, with landscaping including new paving and a traditional Manx stone wall which houses a plaque commemorating 100 years of remembrance.

The works were undertaken with the help of residents, businesses and organisations.

Mac’s Builders Merchants provided the new paving with Corletts clearing, digging out, and laying it.

The commemorative plaque, which takes pride of place in the new wall, was provided by Manx Memorials. Quest Landscapes supplied turf and Greens Cafe refurbished a wooden bench for the area.

Copyshop contributed towards the cost of a banner commemorating 100 years since the signing of the armistice. St Johns Steel donated expertise in the free repair of the bell at Bunscoill Ghaelgagh which pupils used as part of their commemorations, with Isle of Man Fisherman’s Association supplying rope.
