Hospice has raised a record-breaking amount from its Christmas tree collection and recycling service.

The charity raised £14,110 with its environmentally friendly recycling service which had its busiest year to date.

Over 780 trees were collected and 10,100kg of trees were shredded and turned into compost.

Anne Mills, chief executive of Hospice Isle of Man, said: ’Thank you to everyone that has contributed to making this service a success for 2022.

’The public have once again got behind their local Hospice and helped ensure that we can continue to deliver our services to our patients for no charge.’

All Hospice services are provided free of charge to patients and families, and the money raised from the recycling service will help Hospice continue its work in helping the community, according to the charity.

The initiative sees Hospice, Isle of Man Post Office, Tel’s Skips and Ballaneven Compost all working together.

The IoMPO planned the collection routes and provided a willing group of volunteers to collect the trees.

Trees were then taken to Tel’s Ltd where they were put through the shredder.

The shredded trees would get passed to Ballaneven who would turn them into compost, some of which will be used in the Hospice gardens.

Lewis Crowe, assistant delivery manager at Isle of Man Post Office, who organised the collections said: ’Although it takes a lot of coordination and commitment from volunteers and staff, who offer their time for free for this initiative, it is extremely satisfying to be able to support such an amazing charity. The support from the public is ample reward for all the hard work. We are very proud to be part of such an inspiring success story which raises more money and collects more trees year on year.’
