Organisers are urging participants to register to take part in this year’s Harbour to Harbour Walk.
The event will take place on Sunday, May 19, starting at the former Marine Biological Centre in Port Erin and finishing in the town square at Castletown.
For those who prefer a shorter, flatter route, there is also a second start from the RNLI building in Port St Mary to Castletown, which covers about six miles.
In addition, ’walking buddies’ have been introduced for the 2019 event to encourage solo walkers who would like to take part but may not feel confident about doing it on their own to join in the action.
The idea is that anyone who would prefer a walking partner can buddy up with these designated individuals.
With the event starting at 10am, registration opens from 8.45am and the South Coastal Bar and Kitchen in Port Erin will be opening early so participants can eat before heading off.
Free fruit will also be available throughout the walk, donated by Robinson’s, and water will once again be available to walkers at three designated points along the route thanks to Green Mann Spring.
Walkers should bring their own water bottles, or reuse their bottles from last year, as there will be no plastic cups available at the water stations.
Reusable water bottles will also be on sale for £3 at the registration desk and on the route.
Event organiser and Southern Community Initiatives (SCI) project co-ordinator Janet Bridle said: ’The 2019 Harbour to Harbour Walk idea is shaping up to be the best yet and we’re really looking forward to getting going.
’I will be ditching my on-the-day organisational duties and donning my walking trainers for the first time this year. I’m excited to be among the action!
’It is so much more than a walk, it’s a community fundraiser which aims to bring people together and raise money for three important local charities. It’s also an opportunity to get outside on a spring morning and enjoy some fresh Manx air along the scenic southern coast.’
This marks the fourth year that property developer Dandara has sponsored the event, which each year raises funds for three charities - Southern Community Initiatives, Men in Sheds and SPort Erin.
