It was a night to remember for Arthur and Janet Laine, who shared their diamond anniversary with friends and family last Saturday.

Around 40 guests attended the event at the Port St Mary golf club pavilion at 7.30pm, including relatives who travelled from Australia for the special occasion.

Mr and Mrs Laine got married in October 12, 1957 and described it as a ’wonderful day’.

Arthur jokingly said: ’I appreciated the party more than the wedding.’

Black and white photographs of the wedding were placed on a table for those to look at and for the Laines to reflect on their first major milestone together.

One attendee, Elizabeth Jensen, is also pictured in the photos as their flower girl.

Guests enjoyed a buffet and a selection of desserts that were provided by the caterers at the pavilion.

Janet said: ’Our diamond wedding was just fantastic! Everyone was so happy and the buffet was utterly superb.’

The couple were particularly delighted that their son, Greg Laine, grandson, Christopher and his wife, Ellen, had made it to the event after living in Australia for more than four years.

’We were so happy because the kids were over.’ Said Janet.

On Monday, the Laines received a special delivery from Buckingham Palace and had a representative of the Governor knock at their door to congratulate them personally.

’We have a beautiful card from the Queen, with her photo on the front, and a letter from the governor saying how pleased they are to know about our celebrations.’

Mr and Mrs Laine would like to make a special thank you to those who celebrated with them and to the chef and staff of the venue for their amazing efforts.
