More than £7,000 has been raised at an annual auction for the Phil Hogg Rescue Ambulance.

The event was hosted at the Palace Hotel, Douglas, for the rescue charity set up in memory of Phil Hogg who died in an accident during a TT practice near Ballagarey in 1989.

A total of £7,330 was raised, which will go towards medical equipment and ambulances used during motorsport events in the island, including the TT and Southern 100.

Shaun Hogg, Phil’s brother, organised the event along with TT and MGP commentator Roy Moore.

Shaun said: ’Funds towards the charity not only help keep my brother’s memory alive, but the money is vital to keep the rescue service on the road.

’We need every penny as we have three rescue vehicles that need a lot of maintenance and all medical equipment has a use-by-date and has to be replaced over time.’

Around 100 people attended the event with 120 items to do with motorcycling being up for auction.

A four-day break in the Lake District, gifted by Dave Williams, was auctioned for £600 and a canvas of Michael Dunlop during the Classic TT last year, by Jeremy Gill, went for £550. Shaun thanked those who donated items, as well as Roy Moore, Terry Holmes, Dave Connor and the staff at the Palace Hotel who put on the event free of charge.

’Next year will be our 30th auction. Hopefully it is going to be a big one,’ he added.
