A Ramsey residential care home celebrated its 40th anniversary last week.

Cummal Mooar residential home’s 34 residents got together to celebrate the landmark number.

The party was attended by all residents, their carers, members of Manx Care’s social care division and Alex Allinson, MHK for Ramsey.

The residential home is one of three resource centres in the island run by Manx Care that provides residential care for the elderly.

At 46-bed capacity, the home opened On October 4, 1981 and has acted as a source of support for older people living in the north of the island and their families, according to Manx Care.

To mark the event residents made ruby-coloured table decorations to signify the 40 years the site had been open, played games and had a three course lunch.

Sally Shaw, Manx Care’s executive director of social care, said: ’For the last 40 years, Cummal Mooar and its staff have played an incredibly important role in the lives of residents, their families and the broader community in the north of the island, and it was important to recognise this landmark with them.’

According to Manx Care, the team uses a person-centred approach to help residents maintain their independence and delivers a ’high quality of life’ for older people with support needs.

Dr Alex Allinson said: ’It was wonderful to see the residents enjoying their party and to get involved with some of their games.

’After a difficult 18 months, it was heartwarming to share in their celebration of the home’s 40th anniversary and I would like to thank all the staff for their care and commitment.’
