Christmas has come early for some families in the island.

One of them is Kim Wright, a mother-of-three from Anagh Coar Road, Douglas. Her lounge was transformed into a winter wonderland scene on November 16. Normally she tries to make her lights coincide with the Douglas Christmas light switch-on.

’This year I watched Miracle on 34th Street and got a little overexcited and carried away,’ she said.

’I love Christmas, the lights and the twinkle of it. My neighbour said: "You’ve outdone yourself this year." I wish I could go bigger!’

Her early decorating does attract some criticism. She said: ’I couldn’t care less about what people think. It’s my house and the kids love it.’

Olive Christian of Lyburn Avenue, Pulrose, usually gets her Christmas decorations up at Hop tu Naa.

She said: ’I get the decorations up early especially for the grandkids. They say: "Nana, it’s too early!".’

Olive is known for being the first person in her area to put up the Christmas lights. A friendly competition with others has grown out of it.

Down the street Geoff and Breeda Howard’s home on Alder Road could possibly been seen from outer space.

They get their lights up early for granddaughter Mckenzie, 12, who has a genetic disorder called Angelman syndrome. ’She loves them!’ Geoff said. ’If it was just me and the wife I wouldn’t have bothered, but it’s for her and the kids going past the house.’

They have a toy Olaf display, from the film Frozen, and join the others in having their tree up.
