A busy road in Douglas will be closed today to allow tree felling to take place.

Pulrose Road will be closed between the junction of Peel Road and the Bowl car park (opposite the Riverside Trading Estate) on Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28.

The Department for Infrastructure is carrying out tree felling on the embankment adjacent to the Riverside Trading Estate, requiring a safety zone around the work site and including the carriageway of Pulrose Road.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has granted the DoI a licence to carry out the tree felling, and a bat survey has also been undertaken.

The DoI said that although there’s no evidence there are any bats roosting in the trees, a rule has been instructed that the trees must be ’soft felled’ and that the trunks be left for a time afterwards to ensure any bats that might live there can relocate.

Pulrose Road will remain closed overnight as trunks will need to be placed along the road due to the restricted nature of the site.

The DoI also said that the work needs to be completed before the bird nesting season.

Arrangements for diversions and access:

Riverside Trading Estate and the Bowl car park will both remain open and accessible via the junction with Groves Road. A diversion route via Quarterbridge Road, New Castletown Road and Groves Road will be signposted. This route will provide access to:

Middle River Industrial Estate (including the Eastern Amenity Site)

Douglas Golf Club

Bowl car park

All businesses in these areas will be operating as normal over the weekend.

Pedestrian access and access for emergency services.
