Resurfacing work on Ballakilpheric Road in Rushen has been completed, with the final section at the top of the road being finished last week.

The road has now reopened and the Department of Infrastructure has confirmed that all planned surfacing work is complete.

A spokesperson from the DOI commented: ‘The Department is grateful to all residents for their patience whilst these works were underway.’

However, further disruption is expected this week when roadside tree works are carried out at the bottom of the road between Belle Abbey and Ballasherliogue.

The short section will be closed to through traffic between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday September 1, and Wednesday September 2.

Access to properties above Ballasherliogue will be maintained via the Ballakillowey junction at the top of the road.

The spokesperson added: ‘These works had to wait until resurfacing works at the top of the road were complete in order for access to and from properties on Ballakilpheric Road to be maintained.

‘To attempt to do both at the same time would have been impracticable.’

The latest roadworks follow a period of significant infrastructure work on Ballakilpheric Road.

In 2024, Manx Utilities replaced the water main along the road as part of a £450,000 infrastructure project.

The scheme involved installing a new water main from the Colby main road to the junction at Lyngague and was expected to take around 26 weeks.

At the time, Manx Utilities said the existing distribution main had originally been laid in 1968 and was approaching the end of its asset life.

The water-main project also provided an opportunity for sewer condition investigations and associated works, including repairs where required and the replacement of manhole chambers and covers.
