Due to coastal overtopping as a result of high tide and strong winds, the following roads have been closed – Douglas Promenade, Summerhill to Port Jack and Shore Road, Gansey. The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for coastal overtopping between noon and 4pm.
Central and northern parts of Douglas promenade, Castletown promenade as well as Shore Road in Rushen, Laxey promenade and, to a lesser extent, Fenella Beach in Peel and parts of Ramsey promenade were forecast to be affected.
The forecast:
Cloudy and dry to start with a freshening south-southwest wind. Rain arriving around mid-morning, heavy at times, with a strong to gale force southerly. This allowing significant coastal overtopping around the time of high tide. The rain then clearing to showers by mid-afternoon, top temperature 9°C.
Into tomorrow, becoming cold again with sunshine and a few wintry showers and a fresh to strong west-northwest wind. Highest temperature 6°C but feeling colder with significant wind chill.
Wet start to Saturday with a strong south-southwest wind, the rain then clearing to showers later in the morning as the wind veers westerly but remains strong. Highest temperature 10°C.
