Delaying road resurfacing work in Port St Mary is unacceptable, village politicians believe.
The authority understood the high street would be resurfaced next year.
However, the highways division at the Department of Infrastructure has said that highway resurfacing has been postponed to 2020/21.
The authority also wants more roads to be resurfaced in the scheme.
At present the department plans to resurface from St Mary’s church to the junction of the high street and Park Road.
At a recent meeting commissioners’ chairman Michelle Haywood said the area suggested does not include priority roads such as the high street.
She added: ’Primrose Terrace is the big one.’
She explained installation of the Iris sewerage scheme several years ago led to failings in the road surface which have been in-filled, but failed.
She added: ’Silt has been washed out.
’If you allow waster to wash through, there is a danger it will wash through areas where it is not engineered for.’
Ian Skelly said: ’We were promised 2019.’
He is worried the works could be delayed beyond 2021.
Also residents think commissioners have more control over road resurfacing than they really do.
Dr Haywood said potholes were a major concern in a survey they carried out into traffic in the village,
Laurence Vaughan-Williams said: ’It is not acceptable.’
Dr Haywood encouraged residents to write complaining to the department.
The authority will express its disappointment at the ’unacceptable’ delay and point out the high street and Primrose Terrace also need resurfacing.
