Preparatory checks have begun on Pulrose Bridge ahead of a planned major replacement scheme.

There are narrow lanes, a footpath closure, priority traffic flow and potentially temporary traffic lights all this week on Pulrose Road. Contractors are on site for Manx Utilities to carry out cable investigations as part of the ongoing design work for the bridge replacement scheme.

Work to replace the 1930s-built bridge is scheduled to begin this year, with funding of £1.6m earmarked in the Budget.

Shoprite owners, Isle of Man Enterprises, which has a warehouse on Pulrose Road, has been advised that work on the replacement bridge could take up to 18 months.

Manx Utilities is working closely with the Department of Infrastructure in the design which will take into account flood risk.
