Manx Wild Bird Aid are asking residents to consider alternatives to fly paper after rescuing a trapped robin.
The wildlife charity said that the bird was found on fly paper with a broken wing.
The robin is being tended to by members of the charity, who are trying to remove the glue-like substance coating the fly paper from the bird’s feathers.
MWBA said on their Facebook page: ‘We are hoping the break to his wing will heal in time, though if not fit enough for a full release the robin will spend the rest of his life in one of our aviaries specifically for disabled birds.
‘It goes without saying that sticky insect traps have the potential to kill more than just flies, with small birds and even bats often unintended victims. With many safer options available, please consider the consequences before purchasing something which may have harmful effects on birds and wildlife.’
The charity is asking residents to get in touch with them straight away if people discover a bird trapped in fly paper.
‘Don’t try to remove it from a trap yourself as it’s extremely likely to result in further injuries to the bird,’ they said.
