Guitar-wielding rock kids, some aged as young as seven years old, showed off their licks and chops at an end-of-year concert held by the Rock Project music school.
Taking place at the Peel Centenary Centre on Sunday, July 7, the concert featured children aged between seven and 16 who have attended the school over the past year.
Whether playing the guitar, the bass, drumming or stepping up to be the singer with their own groups, the kids were keen to show their teachers, parents and others in the crowd their skills with their chosen instruments.
Playing in a series of groups, the young musicians played a range of rock and pop songs, covering everything from Shakira to Metallica, with the some classic rock cover band standards, such as Eye of the Tiger and Paranoid, thrown in for good measure.
Sound engineer and music teacher David Rowles, who runs the Rock Project on the Isle of Man said that there was no lack of confidence or ability in his young charges, despite the fact that some of them had only been playing for a couple of months.
’We’ve been working hard all year, and especially running up to the gig, to make sure all the students perform at their best,’ said David.
’The music we play is all chosen by the students, so what you heard tonight is the result of what they wanted to do.’
Emma Callin, from the Isle of Man Arts Council, handed out awards.
