Following a whirlwind romance, a couple decide to marry and seek out a life in the Mediterranean sunshine.
However, the romance doesn’t last for long, and very soon one of the young lovers is left to consider if she has made a huge and terrifying mistake...
This is the premise for ’The Honeymoon’, the latest thriller written by the prolific Manx author Rona Halsall.
Released last week, under the tagline ’Marry in haste, repent at leisure’, ’The Honeymoon’ is Rona’s third novel in two years, and follows her previous novels, ’Love You Gone’ and ’Keep You Safe’, both of which received glowing and positive reviews.
Rona describes the Honeymoon as a ’tense and twist’ thriller, set on Menorca and in Brighton and follows the story of Chloe and Dan who marry after knowing each other for two months.
As soon as they start their honeymoon, Chloe begins to wonder if she’s made a mistake.
’He jokes that it would be good to stay on Menorca,’ said Rona.
’At first, Chloe couldn’t agree more. It’s tempting to imagine truly leaving her troubled past behind.
’But as the honeymoon goes on, he becomes increasingly adamant. In fact, he won’t let her leave.’
Rona said that she enjoyed the writing process on ’The Honeymoon’, and that she particularly relished the idea of creating sticky scenarios for her characters to end up in.
’I had a lot of fun writing this story, putting my main character in all sorts of tricky situations and I hope my readers enjoy all the twists and turns,’ said Rona.
’I think it will appeal to fans of BA Paris, Gillian Flynn and Clare Mackintosh and one reviewer has commented that it’s like a mash up of Behind Closed Doors and Gone Girl.
’Given the subject matter, I think it makes a perfect holiday read.’
Rona will be appearing at the Bridge Bookshop in Ramsey for a book signing on Saturday, June 15, from 11am to 12.30pm.
’It would be lovely to meet people and I like nothing better than chatting about books, so I hope to see some of my readers there.’
Not one to rest on her creative laurels, Rona is planning to release her fourth novel, ’Her Mother’s Lies’ will be released later this year, on October 23.
