Biomedical scientist Mike Hayler is taking part in a charity running challenge in memory of his cousin who died from lung cancer.

Mike, who lives in Douglas, is a member of Manx Fell Runners.

He is undertaking the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation challenge in memory of his cousin Lewis who died of lung cancer three years ago.

One of his favourite routes for is from Laxey to Snaefell and back.

He said: ’When I ran the series I wanted to think of Lewis and the times we shared in our late teens - so, happy and sad memories. I really enjoy running - it’s one of the best ways to boost both your physical and mental health.

’Providing an outlet for stress relief it can also improve your mood and overall happiness.’

As a biomedical scientist, Mike’s work involves processing samples at the pathology lab at Noble’s Hospital.

He continued: ’I have become acutely aware of a rise in the number of lung biopsies we receive in the lab.

’I decided to support the charity in memory of Lewis and also to raise more awareness of this disease and encouraging people to come forward with early signs.’
