The rates in Rushen Parish will increase by 3.2% to 98p in the pound from 95p.
On top of this householders will have a 3.1% increase in the refuse charge - increasing to £67 from £65 last year.
Commissioners said the increase was necessary due to inflationary increases of over 4% in many of the authority’s core spending areas. The commissioners will use some of the increase to fund ’exciting’ plans for new recreational areas at Ballakilley as well as upgrading some street lighting.
Most authorities said they increased rates in response to rising costs. Some authorities held the rate steady, in Malew’s case finances were helped by an anticipated revenue from the redeveloped estate at Clagh Vane. Other authorities pointed out the overall bill includes charges for water and burial grounds
Rates round-up: Arbory 120p (2.56% rise); Braddan 200p; Castletown 314p (6.56% rise); Douglas 419p (2.7% increase); Garff (including Laxey at 154p, Lonan at 103p and Maughold at 170p) remains the same; Malew 175p and Onchan 312p unchanged; no rise in Peel 257p, plus the separate refuse charge is £174 per household, up by £4; Port Erin 302p (5.6% rise); Port St Mary 331p (5.2% rise).
