The fleet of the Manx Electric Railway has inspired a new series of children’s books.

Sara Goodwins of Loaghtan Books, and the current Manx Bard, has written ’Something on the Line’, the first in a new series ’Tram Tales of the Manx Electric Railway’.

Aimed at children aged around six to eight, the book tells how the youngest tram in the fleet, Twain, found a dinosaur had strayed on to the MER line.

’He had to be very brave to tackle it.

The series coincides with the 125th anniversary of the MER.

Sara explained: ’The book was great fun to do.

’Anyone who knows the MER knows that all the trams have their own personalities in real life, so all I had to do was to reflect that in the book.’

She added: ’We’ve seen so many children really enjoying their day out on the MER that we thought they’d probably enjoy reading something about the trams’ adventures.’

Illustrated in full colour throughout, the book has a RRP of £5.95 and is published by Loaghtan Books.

It’s available from bookshops and gift shops across the island.

Other books in the ’ Tram Tales of the Manx Electric Railway’ series are due to be published later in the year.
