A road closure in the south will create heavy traffic outside Arbory School.

The road between Kentraugh and Fisher’s Hill will be closed in an easterly direction from 6am on Friday (September 13) to 6pm on Saturday, September 28 - or earlier if work is completed - to allow for work to create a cycleway.

Traffic going to Douglas will be directed via Colby and Arbory. Vehicles parked on the road forces single lane flow in many areas. This is exacerbated at school drop off and pick up times.

Head teacher Jonathan Ayres said: ’We would like people to be mindful. School is busy, we do get gridlock here particularly at home time. If people do not need to make that journey please don’t do it between 3pm and 3.40pm which are the busier times.

’My concern is the safety of the children, there are cars backing up and manoeuvering. I’m surprised at the timing but the department explained the work is part of the active travel scheme, which will reduce traffic in the long term.

’We have enough trouble with the current situation. I would ask for some patience.’
