Scouts who will be at the World Scout Jamboree next year have been busy raising funds.

The group, led by unit leader Alex Armstrong will head to West Virginia, in 2019 to represent the island at the 24th World Scout Jamboree.

They will spend the next few months taking part in various fundraisers to pay for their exciting trip.

Over Christmas, the group was selling handmade wooden three legs baubles which they sold through Facebook, not only selling out but also needing to produce 400 more to keep up with the popular decorations.

They also helped with Groudle Railway’s parking where they held a guess the weight of the cake competition, raising over £400 in just two days.

Unit Member Izzy then did a sponsored silence whereby she did not speak or have any interaction on social media for 13 hours. Described as usually very talkative, she raised £334.50. They also held a bucket collection outside the pantomime where they raised £363.53 in about 15 minutes.

Mr Armstrong, of 2nd Onchan Scouts said: ’We would like to thank Professor Hugh Davidson and the Elizabeth Clucas Charitable Trust, Groudle Railway, Dreamstar Productions and their patrons, Morrison Photos, Onchan District Explorer Scouts and everyone else who has and continues to support us.’
