A troop of Scouts from the island have been playing Monopoly with one key difference, it covered most of central London.
The Scouts, who are later this year attending the World Scout Jamboree, travelled to London to take part in a competition called Alternative Monopoly Run on Saturday.
To complete the challenge, the Scouts had 11.5 hours to locate every square’s real world equivalent.
Along the way they had to take pictures, complete challenges and return by 7pm or else risk being disqualified.
Izzy Sime, a Southern Explorer Scout who took part said the group were managing on only four hours sleep having arrived in the capital in the early hours.
Izzy added: ’In teams of four we set off on the Tube into central London, we had so many places we had to go to such as King’s Cross station, Bond Street, Pentonville Road, Leicester Square etc.
’At 12 noon we also had to try and be outside St Paul’s Cathedral to gain an extra 50 points for being in a huge participant photo, we managed it you’ll be pleased to know.
’For every location we visited, or challenge we completed, we gained various amounts of points. To gain these points we had to photograph or film the location or challenge.
’One set of challenges was that we had to think of ways we could display the iconic Monopoly game pieces. In my team we did a human wheelbarrow across Tower Bridge to represent the wheelbarrow piece.
’Now that definitely turned a few heads!’
The trip has formed part of the Scouts’ preparations for their trip to West Virginia in the USA for the 24th World Scout Jamboree in July and August.
The local Scouts joined up with their Cumbria counterparts and used the experience to prepare themselves for the big city experiences their American trip will involve.
Izzy added: ’After the crazy fun filled Saturday, we travelled back to the island on Sunday, completely exhausted but worth it after such a great adventure.
’Our Monopoly Run training trip would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of the lovely Manx citizens, so thank you so much to everyone who has supported and donated to the Manx Scouts attending the World Scout Jamboree.
