One of the highlights of the island’s theatrical calendar takes place this weekend.
The long-running productions of Shakepeare, performed in the open air, exposed to the elements and held in the spectacular setting of Peel Castle takes place on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, from 7pm, with a production of Julius Caesar .
There will also be a chance to catch the performance in the gardens of Rushen Abbey on Sunday, July 22, from 2pm.
Julius Ceasar is one of Shakespeare’s best known tragedies.
The key figure of the play is Brutus, Ceasar’s acquaintance, who is guilt-ridden and tortured over his part in the assassination of the Roman leader.
The open-air performances are performed by the touring theatre companies ADGE and TNT Theatre Britain, who regularly tour and perform Shakespeare throughout Europe.
Last year, they performed the comedy ’Twelfth Night’. Using minimal production values, and their performances are famous for taking place regardless of the weather.
Tickets for all each performance are £25 for adults, with concessions £14, available from the House of Manannan Shop and Celtic Gold in Peel, the Manx Museum shop and Peter Norris Music, in Douglas, Shakti Mann, in Ramsey, Thompson Travel, Port Erin and from Rushen Abbey.
