A new production company based in the island is to make a short film focusing on male mental health.
Glass Line Media are due to begin filming on August 8 for their film ’I’ll’.
The film will focus on a young man, Finn, who lives on an uninhabited island with only his cat after the deaths of his family.
I’ll will portray how Finn copes with his isolation, grief, loneliness and the lengths to which he goes to escape the circumstances in which he finds himself.
The film is the creation of Alex Maxwell who will direct it, along with Nathan Little, the cinematographer and editor and Max Phillips, who is also a director.
The trio, who are all 22, have all been affected either directly or indirectly by mental health issues, Alex is based in the island, Nathan in Liverpool, and Max in Manchester
Alex said: ’Having struggled with anxiety and depression myself, and seeing people I care about struggle with their mental health as well, it’s great to see that it’s becoming part of the conversation.
’But there’s still more that could be done.
’I think further representation in the content we consume is an important step towards that; it helps normalise the discussion, and lifts the stigma little by little.
Depression
’It wasn’t a topic I consciously chose to do initially.
’I wrote this film drawing from my own experiences, dealing with things like anxiety and depression, feelings of isolation and loneliness are so prevalent within that, and that’s what this film explores.’
The star of the film will be Jared Moore, Glass Line Media is still looking for two extras to play Finn’s dad and his younger self.
Alex added: ’In regards to crew, we are looking for anyone who is passionate about film making to help out.
’The specific roles we still require are a grip, gaffer, sound recordist/boom operator and first assistant camera.
’However if people are interested in helping out but don’t feel comfortable within these roles, we want people to feel welcome to come on as production assistants and help out however they can.’
Glass Line Media will be filmed from August 8 to August 13 with a day off on August 12.
Once completed, I’ll will be submitted to film festivals worldwide and Glass Line Media hopes to have it shown in one of the island’s cinemas.
Glass Line Media was founded as an idea a little over a year ago just after the trio graduated from Edge Hill University and became a business about two months ago.
In the UK, the NHS says that up to a quarter of people experience issues surrounding their mental health.
And earlier this year, ITV Studios in London placed 84 statues at the edge of its roof to represent the number of men aged under 45 who commit suicide each week in the UK.
Glass Line Media are also looking to find cast, crew and further sponsorship in the island. For more information, email [email protected].
