Three groups from across the Celtic music spectrum will perform in Peel as part of a weekend of entertainment next month.

The annual Shennaghys Jiu festival gets under way from Friday, April 3 and, in particular, will feature a Celtic showcase afternoon concert at the Peel Centenary Centre on Sunday April 5, from 3pm.

The showcase will hear music from the Galician piper, flautist and cittern player Xose Liz and backing band, along with the multinational group Project Smok, featuring another Galician musician, guitarist Pablo Lafuente and two Scottish musicians, piper Ali Levack and bodhrá* player Ewan Baird.

Project Smok are appearing in the island shortly before embarking on a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of their debut album, Horizons.

The youth folk group Scran will also appear, playing a range of traditional and contemporary Manx folk songs.

Tickets for the Celtic showcase concert are £10, available from Celtic Gold, in Peel, Shakti Mann, in Ramsey or online from etickets.im/cc

Any remaining tickets will be available on the door.

The annual Shennaghys Jiu festival, which translates as ’traditions today’, is mainly based in Ramsey and features a variety of local and international acts performing at concerts and ceilidhs.
