Skateboarders of all ages headed to Braddan skatepark to show of their range of ollies, drop-ins, 180 turns and more tricks and flicks at the weekend.
ISB Skateboarding held their annual summer event ’Woodstoke - A Summer of Love’ at the island’s largest custom-built skatepark on Saturday afternoon.
More than 400 people turned up to watch skateboarders, aged from six years old to over 40 try to show off their skills on a skateboard and try to win prizes, including skateboard accessories and clothing, donated by Braddan Commissioners.
Among the competitions held on the day were ’skater of the day’, which went to 11 year-old Shay McEleney, who impressed the judges with ’a 360 from the deep and an epic display of skating’.
Organiser Chris Buttery said that the day was a perfect family event that helped to break down the stigma that can get attached to skateboarding.
’The ’Summer of Love’ event was a community based event, organised by ISB for everyone to come down and enjoy,’ said Chris.
’It was a great summer’s day out and loads of people came out for it.
’We had families turning up, not really knowing what the event was and really enjoying the day.
’That helps people understand and appreciate skateboarding that little bit better and makes it accessible.
’Everyone there was really appreciative of everyone else. The idea of the day is help encourage people and help each other along.’
The day also featured live music from Han-FX and the Innuendo Orchestra and DJ Mo Beats.
l The organisers thanked all those who helped with the day, including Braddan Commissioners, the Shred House, Sneaky Weasel, Heavy Metal Artisteries, Slappy Bens, Nice Garms and Hype Mann Exclusive Brand Sourcing.
