A legendary UK glam rock band, and the writers of arguably the greatest Christmas single all time, will be on the island to get the festive period under way this weekend.
Slade are set to appear at the Gaiety Theatre on Sunday, November 24, from 7.30pm, as part of their UK-wide Christmas tour.
And, from all corners of the British Isles, the glam rock titans will be screaming ’It’s Christmas’, the memorable line from their legendary festive hit ’Merry Christmas (Everybody’s Having Fun)’ as loudly as they can.
Despite the retirement of their instantly-recognisable singer Noddy Holder, the group still features founder members, guitarist Dave Hill and drummer Don Powell, who have been performing together for more than 50 years.
Today they are joined by singer, bassist and violinist John Berry and keyboardist Russell Keefe.
Slade have the distinction of having successful hit singles over four decades, including ’Radio Wall of Sound’ in the early 90s, and thanks to their memorable and infuriatingly-catchy songs, such as ’Mama We’er All Crazee Now’, ’Cum On Feel The Noize’ and ’Coz I Luv You’, are still packing out theatres around the UK and further afield.
Tickets for Slade are £25.50, and are available from the Welcome Centre and the Villa Gaiety box office, on 600555, and online from villagaiety.com
Support comes from the local rock band Penthouse Dive.
