Peel’s popular annual Soapbox Derby could be raced over a new course this year.

At the latest commissioner’s meeting, organisers discussed two options for the course for the event which will take place on Sunday, August 20.

The first option is to keep last year’s Peveril Road-Stanley Road route but the second option being looked at is to go down Derby Drive and straight over the crossroads down Stanley Road.

The course features jumps and chicanes along the way.

A third option of going down Walpole Road, beside the Creg Malin, has been ruled out.

It was said that the options were being evaluated before a final decision would be made.

The derby was resurrected in 2015 after last being held in the 1950s. Peel man Kevin Oliver sparked the idea when he wrote to the commissioners, after Douglas held its soap box derby, suggesting that Peel should hold its own.
