The southern recycling centre is opening an hour later every day.

The move to 10am comes after health and safety experts advised that it was unacceptable to have ’hook wagons’ at the facility while it’s open to the public.

The large vehicles will now have a ’two-hour window’ before 10am to dump waste at the site, on Castletown Road, Port Erin.

The SRC board says the move was necessary to comply with safety procedures but accepts the change may inconvenience some.

It’s exploring options to keep the site open later on certain days as compensation for the lost hour.

The reuse area remains closed due to structural problems with the building, while work is ongoing to open it ’as soon as practicably possible’.
