On beaches across the island people will be gathering to see the new year in by taking part in the traditional dip in the Irish Sea.

Organised events include:

Douglas - Queen’s Promenade, 12pm, organised by local charities Beach Buddies and Breast Cancer now.

People can sign up online and download sponsorship forms at: www.douglasdip.com

Ramsey - 11am, registration at the Lifeboat House, South Promenade.

The event is hosted by the RNLI and any money raised through sponsorship will benefit it and Bunscoill Rhumsaa.

Peel - 12pm outside Peel Sailing and Cruising Club.

Sponsor forms can be collected from Greens Jewellers at 37 Michael Street, to raise funds for Peel Lifeboat, Multiple Sclerosis and the Huntington’s Disease Association.

Laxey - 12pm at the promenade.

There will be bucket collections in aid of Muscular Dystrophy and a gathering at the Sailing Club afterwards.

Southern Dippers are organising four dips in the south in aid of Isle Listen:

Port Erin Beach - 12:15pm

Port St Mary - Chapel Beach, 10am, and the Inner Harbour at 10:45am

Brewery Beach (Gansey) - 11:30am

There is also a fancy dress competition with cash prizes for the south, with the award presentation being held at the Bay Hotel at 12:45pm.

Castletown - 11am at the Outer Harbour, organised by the Castletown Ale Drinkers Society.

There will be bucket collections for local charities which are decided afterwards.
