Firefighters are urging people to stay at home if their journey is not important.

They have been out assessing road conditions and access for their emergency appliances and say a lot of the smaller roads are still tricky for some cars and vehicles.

Fire crews say that it is imperative that main roads and estates are kept as clear as possible.

’If you do get stuck, please don’t abandon cars, so gritters ambulances, fire appliances and the police can’t get through,’a spokesman said.
