Last night at about 8pm, the Steam Packet’s fast craft Manannan suffered structural damage after it hit the quay when it tried to berth in Douglas Harbour.
The Steam Packet said the vessel’s speed was minimal and the contact was described as a “jolt” rather than a heavy landing.
Immediately after the incident Steam Packet staff passed through the cabin to check if any passengers had sustained any injuries, trips or falls, and none was observed or reported.
The vessel realigned and berthed without further incident with all passengers and vehicles arriving from Liverpool safely disembarked.
Steam Packet workshop staff have been working through the night to repair the damage, but they require more time to complete the repair.
The following sailings are cancelled:
FRIDAY 18th AUGUST
Douglas to Liverpool 07:30hrs
Liverpool to Douglas 11:15hrs
A Steam Packet spokesman said: ’At this time, it is anticipated that the repairs will be completed in time for Manannan to operate her scheduled Liverpool sailings later today but a further update will be issued at 12 noon.
’The Isle of Man Steam Packet would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these unavoidable cancellations.’
