Ramsey courthouse and gardens took centre stage for a series of Island at War themed events in the town.

The events, hosted by Ramsey Commissioners and supported by Year of Our Island, culminated in live entertainment on Sunday (August 19) when the audience were invited not only to sing along, but also to bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of wartime nostalgia.

Setting the mood were the Summer Singers, conducted by Geoff Collier, who got the crowd in the mood with a rousing rendition of Ramsey Town and then led a singalong of wartime favourites with the appreciative audience.

More live entertainment was provided by clarinettist Alice Lowdon, while the cast of Cloideryn performed numbers from their wartime concerts held on the Friday and Saturday evenings with Ramsey Town Library’s Heather Ruffino taking the role of ’Forces’ Sweetheart’ Dame Vera Lynn.

Ramsey Commissioners chairman Andy Cowie said: ’Ramsey’s Island at War weekend rekindled a tremendous wartime spirit and brought the local community - young and old alike - together in song, music and memories.

’Thanks are due to everyone who put such hard work into the excellent programme of entertainment, which was enjoyed by all.’
