Yoga teacher and local author Sue Woolley has published a handbook of sequences to aid and inspire teachers and students alike.
It is a slim volume listing 52 posture sequences applicable to various parts of the year, illustrated with the author’s own photographs.
Sue, who reports news from the north of the island for Isle of Man Newspapers, has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years and is familiar with the challenges of keeping classes fresh and engaging for students.
’I must have taught more than 1,500 classes, yet rarely have I offered exactly the same sequence twice,’ she admits.
’I like to be creative, without veering too far off course. Nevertheless, over the years I have collected a large number of "stand-by" sequences and the result is this book.
’I see it as a simple resource for teachers, who can keep it in their kit bag, along with their register, first aid book and torch!
’It’s also ideal for keen students who would like to establish a home practice but aren’t sure where to begin.’
Sue is a keen proponent of the British Wheel of Yoga, recognised by Sport England as the national governing body for yoga, and is one of only a handful of teachers in the Isle of Man to hold the BWY teaching diploma, which took her four years to attain.
She is also qualified to run the BWY foundation course and has already run two such courses successfully.
A fresh course will commence in January 2020 and expressions of interest are welcome.
As an active member of the Isle of Man Yoga Network since it was established 15 years ago, Sue works with colleagues to promote yoga throughout the island by organising regular events and training days.
’The Yoga Year’ costs £10. It is available to buy at the Bridge Bookshop, Ramsey and Port Erin, or from the author herself, email [email protected] or text 490054.
